LAFAYETTE, Contra Costa County — October 24, 2026. Lafayette’s project to improve bicycle and pedestrian connections at the BART station is an important piece of its broader downtown mobility plans. The city’s official construction project page identifies a $2.59 million construction contract with Integra Construction Services, awarded in October 2025, and says construction began in March 2026.

What the project is intended to provide

The plan includes an ADA-compliant shared-use pathway connecting the BART station with the existing Town Center path leading into downtown Lafayette. A new public plaza is intended to provide gathering space and a clearer pedestrian transition. The municipality describes the investment as a way to make access for cyclists and pedestrians safer and more convenient, helping link the station and downtown destinations.

Why dates need care

The city page once anticipated completing the project by the end of summer 2026. Because that target date has already passed, it should not be treated as proof that all work finished on schedule. The same page lists several weekly construction updates, including updates through August 28, 2026, and says new updates are generally posted on Fridays while construction is active.

The exact amount spent to date, the status of construction in late October, access restrictions and opening of individual project elements require current city confirmation. This article does not claim that construction remains active today or that the path is open; readers should consult the latest posted update before planning a trip.

How to find the latest access information

Riders and pedestrians can review the construction page and weekly notice links. The municipality identifies its Engineering Services Manager, Matt Luttropp, as a project contact. Temporary vehicle parking, bicycle access and pedestrian detours can change block by block and should be checked against current on-site signs.

How this connects to other Lafayette planning

The city also established a seven-member Multi-Modal Mobility Advisory Committee in August to help review downtown connectivity and safety. The existence of that committee does not automatically alter this project’s contract terms or adopted budget.
